Anchors Away - Gold Anchor Charm Bracelet

jeauxzdollz | Jewelry, accessories | Thursday, 19 April 2007

I’m not usually one for a lot of jewelry. Don’t get me wrong - I like it - but it’s not terribly practical, and it can get expensive. In most cases, I’d rather spend the money on some sweet shoes or jeans.

Anyway, I’ve decided that the next time I buy jewelry, it’s going to be this adorable gold nautical bracelet. At $88, it’s not a total impulse buy for most of us, but it’s definitely affordable.

Good 80s Nostalgia - The Pink Metallic Hobo Bag

jeauxzdollz | accessories | Friday, 13 April 2007

Like I said in the 80s Hi-Tops post, some 80s nostalgia can be bad. Then there’s the good stuff like this cute metallic pink hobo bag from Bisadora. It comes in pink, copper, silver, and black, and it TOTALLY reminds me of those cheap dress-up kits that came with the purse and plastic heels. Remember those?

Be careful with this purse, though. Pair it with heels and a short skirt and you’re likely to get some highly unsavory offers from misguided gentleman callers.

Sneakers For Grown-ups - My Picks, Part 1

jeauxzdollz | shoes | Thursday, 12 April 2007

There was a time when I hated that outfit. You know the one - it’s casual enough that you look like a dork if you pick a dressy kind of shoe, but yet nice enough that normal tennis shoes are out of the question. Just a few short years ago, we didn’t have many choices for those outfits. And what if you wanted to take a dressy outfit and make it more casual? Sandals were pretty much your only good option.

The shoemakers have answered our prayers, creating an entirely new category of shoes for both men and women - the “nice” sneaker. Some look like bowling shoes and others look like dress shoes of canvas and still others just look like nice tennis shoes, but they’re all wonderful. Here are a couple of my favorites:

The geox - Women’s Snake S/O: I’m not sure where they’re getting the “snake part, but they’re definitely cute.

Remember when you couldn’t tie your own shoes? Somehow, these black L.A. Gear sneakers seem a lot cooler when the velcro is a choice, not a necessity. I’m actually kind of digging the L.A. Gear - Women’s Advance. At about $30, I don’t even have to think twice about buying them.

If you love the bowling shoe look, check out these Dexter - Women’s SST 7. You don’t get much more authentic than that. Whether you’re wearing them out on the street or down at the lanes, you’re bound to impress someone. And if you wear them to an actual bowling alley, you won’t have to worry about picking up some strange foot disease from the community shoes (which could be disastrous as we’re heading into sandal season!).

I’m always up for a little 80s nostalgia, but please, for the love of all that is holy, do not wear these next shoes. Unless you’re wearing leg warmers and a scrunchy. And attending a Halloween party dressed as an 80s aerobics instructor.

Actually, now that I think about it…that could be kind of hot.

Supercute T-Shirt of the Week: 1 Digg, Digg Me T-Shirt

jeauxzdollz | T-Shirts | Friday, 06 April 2007

If you’re even remotely computer literate, you’re familiar with Digg. Now, for the most part, I think Digg has become a bit of a joke - half the stuff that makes it to the front page does so because people are joining together to manipulate the system - but I still think the Digg Me Digg T-Shirt is pretty cool.

Let’s be honest, though. We all know what people do to Digg something. You click on the “Digg” button. So yes, people are probably going to do the same thing to you if you wear the “Digg Me” t shirt. That could be a great thing, if you work among, say, hot male underwear models. On the other hand, if you work with a bunch of nerdy computer men, you may regret buying the Digg Me shirt.

Geren Ford Silk Contrast Tee - Expensive, and it looks it.

jeauxzdollz | fashion | Wednesday, 04 April 2007

Maybe I’m crazy, but one of my biggest pet peeves with clothing is when an expensive piece doesn’t LOOK like an expensive piece. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to spend $300 on a top, only to see a nearly identical piece marked $20 in a mall store window. I recognize that there’s usually a substantial difference in quality between the cheapest stuff and the really expensive stuff, but once you move up to a certain point, the difference becomes negligible.

Browsing through a few high-end web boutiques today, I found plenty of what I don’t like - the stuff that generally sends me running for the mall - but I did find at least one pleasant surprise. This Geren Ford Silk Contrast Tee is actually quite nice (although I’m not sure I would have chosen that model for the pic).

There’s something very Star Trek, very 70s, about it. I guess it’s just the deep v-neck and odd shoulders. And of course, it’s a nice way to wear the v-neck look without showing your breasts to the entire world. I just hate when I do that. It’s definitely unusual enough that I wouldn’t expect to see it while walking through the local JCPenney’s.

I’m not really sure why they call it a tee, though. The sleeves aren’t terribly t-shirt like, and the fabric is 100% silk. I had never heard of Geren Ford today (am I behind the times?), but I will definitely be keeping an eyes out for Geren Ford stuff in the future. At $239, this piece is a little pricy than what most of us normal people would wear, but for the right occasion, this contrast “tee” could be perfect.
