Put the kids down for a nap, sit the hubby in front of the tube…Now fill your tub with up warm water and drop the Big Blue Bath Bomb into your bath and lay back and imagine yourself drifting on soothing ocean waves, snorkeling at the seashore, or deep sea diving in a beautiful blue coral reef! Loose yourself in Big Blues refreshing fragrance of lavender and lemon, let your cares drift away like so many tiny bubbles!

It may not be the fountain of youth, but it’s close!

Valentines day, the most romantic day of the year, is coming up and many of us are in a quandary. Even an old married lady like me likes to feel pretty and–cover your eyes kids, if you’re reading this–sexy. But at my age I usually try to conceal and minimize my assettes, not display them. And when I finally get psyched enough to go shopping for lingerie I invariably find items designed and sized for anorexic or surgically altered bodies, not for the normal, average sized woman.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the average American woman stands not quite five foot four and weighs 152 pounds, NOT six foot two and one hundred pounds like most of the images of the runway models we’re routinely assailed by…I can’t remember the last time my face was airbrushed, either.

My husband tells me that there is nothing sexier than a woman who feels sexy, and I think most men would agree. So this Valentines day, go for it! Throw your man a curve or two. There are lots of shops that sell plus size lingerie or purchase some flirty little underthings for him to unwrap! You don’t have to be a size two to feel sexy!

Okay, here’s yet another thing you don’t know about me…are you ready? Here goes…Okay, wait, now I’m not ready. Okay! Ok…now I’m really gonna do it..I’m gonna confess…
I HAD COSMETIC SURGERY.
No it wasn’t a boob job (though I could use one) or a face lift (could use even more) or a butt tuck or even lipo.

No. I got my very own chin.
I clearly remember the first time I realized I had no chin, I was about seven and we went to a department store to buy school clothes and they had this three way mirror. I remember the feeling of falling through the floor when I realized how I looked from the side. I guess, being seven, I had just assumed I was a normal little kid, even cute like my sister and my cousins. I don’t think I ever felt quite the same after that, from that moment on I knew I was different, I didn’t look like anyone else around me. Inevitably, the other kids began letting me know I looked funny too, and I became very shy and let my hair hang in my face and did my best to become invisible.

When I got into my thirties I decided I needed a chin, I knew my husband loved me just the way I was, but I felt like my chinless state made me seem…weak somehow. I saved up for about a year, then scheduled the surgery. The Doctor joked that he was putting in his “Dolly Parton” chin implant because I had so little chin. The surgery itself wasn’t that bad, but OMG! The post op pain was unreal. I’ve had a couple of surgeries since (bladder, lumpectomy) but nothing that could compare with that pain…it was like every tooth in my head was abscessed and I couldn’t open my mouth more than an inch. It was twenty four hours of agony, but the strange thing is, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love my new chin! I still have what some people might think of as a slightly “weak” chin, but it still a vast improvement! So for anyone thinking about chin surgery, I say go for it. You won’t regret it.

Everyone wants to look fabulous, but sometimes it takes a little bit of help. That help can be expensive. According to most dermatologists, you’re supposed to throw out your makeup after 3-12 months, depending on what it is. At that rate, you could blow half your salary on lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow.

Luckily, there are kits that can give you most of the basics in one package. Instead of buying 20 different shadows every 6 months, you buy one kit and you’ve got everything you need. This one from Sephora is one of my favorites. It’s a great gift, too.
