Random Acts Of Kindness? It Isn’t That Hard People!
I really hate it when people could be useful, helpful and a benefit to others and they just flat don’t. We went to a yard sale the other day and I noticed that a couple houses down someone had thrown out a perfectly good desk. Unfortunately they had tossed all kinds of nasty garbage on top of it, so no one could easily pick it up. And when a lady walked over and asked if she could take it the guy was very rude and shooed her away.
Why? How could it have hurt him to have simply set it out on the curb, minus the coffee grounds and dirty baby diapers, maybe even put a free sign on it?
For Christmas last year, the kids bought me a new brushed steel coffee maker, toaster and a microwave. The old ones all still worked great, so we sat them outside with a free sign and Christmas bows and within minutes we saw an elderly couple taking the microwave, they looked absolutely delighted. Another young couple drove up in a rat-trap 1980’s Fiesta and made off with the toaster and coffee maker.
We REALLY enjoyed being able to do that. And it was no skin off our noses. Sure we could have saved them and sold them on next years yard sale. But I doubt it would have felt as good. Maybe it’s selfish to want to feel that good. But there are worse ways of being selfish.
