Life IS Wonderful! A Perfect Day

Don’t you love the kind of day where for no particular reason you wake up feeling so happy you could burst? Where you lie in bed listening to the bluejays and the squirrels fighting right outside your window and the sound of your next door neighbor mowing his lawn at seven thirty AM, but you can’t help smiling anyway, just imagining the old guy in his lawn mowing outfit–Bermuda shorts, suspenders and white undershirt, black socks and sandals.

Saturday was just such a day. We got up a little early to go to a doll show…you don’t know this about me, but I restore antique dolls. I’ve been doing it for about fifteen years now. I don’t make a lot of money at it but it keeps me out of mischief, kinda like blogging. Anyway, every July there is this big doll show in Belleville that I always get really excited about. I usually rush my poor husband and holler at him if he takes too long in the bathroom, but this day I was just feeling soooooo mellow. We even got a late start leaving the house, but I figured what the heck, if there were things at the show that fate intended me to have, they would still be there. For a change, the hour and a half long trip spent crawling through the sporadic interstate construction didn’t make me crazy. Then a young guy in a vette came zooming down the quickly closing up right lane and cut right in front of us and we had to hit our brakes and my first thought was; “You better slow it down there little buckaroo, before you get yourself killed.” Instead of my usual; “Hey dumb-ass! Somebody oughta jerk you out of that fancy car and *&!!%$# bitch-slap you silly!”

We got to the show forty five minutes late but right off I found a whole box of antique body parts I needed and they were crazy cheap! I also got a very nice composition German head with flirty eyes, an early cold press Horsman doll for fifteen dollars, several vintage doll dresses, and a really nice antique mohair doll wig…Wooohooo! After we left the doll show we spent the entire day poking around all of our favorite home improvement stores, then Hobby Lobby and the antique shops, we even hit the big mall, which I normally hate. (it’s way too crowded and no matter which side of the aisle I walk on I feel like a salmon swimming upstream) Around six we met up with our youngest daughter and her boyfriend for dinner. The seafood was great, the kids were great, we had a really nice time. Afterwards we all went to the new Barnes and Noble bookstore and spent some time perusing the shelves. I even bought a book I’d been wanting. And then we came out and saw this…

My poor little cheapy digital camera couldn’t begin to capture just how beautiful this sunset was. I counted at least ten gorgeous spokes of light shooting outwards, it was like a giant wheel in the sky…just stunning. A perfect end to a perfect day.
