New Contest! Win A Very Special Mohair Bear
Here’s another thing you may not know about me, in addition to restoring antique dolls and teddy bears I also create original antique style mohair bears. My bears are made from antique patterns and from German Schulte mohair with premium wool felt pads, excelsior stuffing, wooden disk joints, old shoe button eyes and a floss nose and claws, just as the old ones were made. This bear’s name is Albert and he looks to be about a century old because he is very distressed, his fur appears moth-eaten and sparse, his pads are thread-bare and stitched in places. And Albert’s not just distressed on the outside, this is one lonely little bear! His best friend has just sold and poor Albert still has no home. Look at him…sad little bear with his little red sweater, he has become disillusioned by the world!
Have you ever felt disillusioned? Maybe you are unhappy about your job or your town, or politics or just the world in general. Or maybe you are unhappy about something relatively small, like some neighbor who is letting his dog bark all night, or some jerk who ripped you off. It may be just a pet peeve, something that simply annoys you. It really doesn’t matter.
You need a hug. Albert needs a hug. A big bear hug. This contest is meant to be cathartic. Albert and I are inviting you to get whatever is bugging you off your chest…no matter how large or small, petty or important. Just write a post about it and link back to this post, but please lets avoid name-calling and profanity, we like to try and run a nice friendly contest here! And I promise you–and promises are very important to me, three weeks from today, one entry will be randomly drawn, from a hat, a bowl, a bird nest, whatever is handy, and that person will win this totally awesome, original mohair bear. I will also link to the entrants. It’s a promise.
Oh! I forgot to tell you, Albert is 18″ tall, he’s a big fella but he doesn’t eat much!

It seems latley I need a lot of hugs, but with the help of the “BEST” Sister in the world, I’m coming along. So, I guess if everyone had a sister to rely on, nothing would bug them. Also, the word cathartic caught my eye. I thought, finaly, something about cats. But I looked it up in the dictionary, it means a bowel movement.

Yep, cathartic means purgative and cleansing, either physically or emotionally, but it applies in this case to getting unpleasant emotions out of your system, like anger, jealousy, sadness and fear. I’ve got a great sister too, and a great husband! And lots of great dogs…I also love cats, but my youngest daughter is so allergic we can’t have any in the house. Anyway, I’m sending you a big mental hug! ( )

Jayme, from Just Jayme has written a great post for the Mohair Bear contest. Michelle is expecting, and anyone who has gone through a pregnancy understands the emotional highs and dismal lows women go through, sometimes several times in one day! Thanks Jayme!

[...] We have only two entries so far…Is there no one out there upset, dejected, incensed, peeved, perturbed, PO’d, vexed, enraged, freaked out…about something? Or someone? Are you guys a bunch of Bear haters? Is that it? (Impossible! Look at that sweet face!) Then write a post about how much you dislike gorgeous antique style mohair bears! Then give him away as a Christmas gift! Contest ends September 21st. [...]

[...] First, I’ll tell you about the cute bear. His name happens to be Albert and he is totally adorable. He was made by Jeaux over at Fickle Food. An interesting thing about Jeaux, she restores antique dolls and teddy bears and she also makes these adorable antique like bears. And she’s holding a contest to win this cute little guy. Please be aware that this is not made to be played with really so it’s not toddler safe. Bits and pieces might come off if chewed on, the threads are loose etc … it is made like a true antique bear! But he would look quite cheerful on your desk or sitting on your stitching chair. [...]

[...] Ive decided to do one more bear contest. In the last contest, which was featured on my other blog, fickle food, you were asked to write a post about things that bug you, vex you, just out and out piss you off. This time I want you to write a post listing five things for which you are grateful. They don’t have to be huge, earth-shaking things, they could be thankfulness for a friendly neighbor, a kind person who let you go first at the grocery store, a beloved pet who has made your life happier. Then link back to this post. The winner will receive this awesome mohair bear, made by my own little hands! His name is Bailey, and while he is distressed like Albert and made in the tradition of the famous antique bears, with German mohair, wooden joint disks, excelsior stuffing and antique button eyes. He is nineteen inches tall. Bailey is an artist bear, as such he’s not safe for small children. [...]
